Designed by Frank Gehry, the museum’s fluid, organic form was inspired by the movement of water, requiring complex 3D modeling for precise execution.
Over 33,000 titanium panels were custom-cut to create the museum’s shimmering facade. These panels were chosen for their lightweight and corrosion-resistant properties.
A steel framework supported by reinforced concrete allowed for the museum’s unconventional curves, setting new architectural standards.
The museum revitalized Bilbao’s economy, leading to the “Bilbao Effect” – a phenomenon where architecture drives urban transformation.
