About project

Initial Design & Sustainability

Designed to resemble a glass shard piercing the sky, the building prioritizes energy efficiency, with 95% recycled materials used in construction.

Structural Challenges

A concrete core and steel frame were used to support the tower’s tapering structure. Engineers carefully balanced weight distribution to maintain stability.

Glass Panel Installation

Over 11,000 glass panels were installed, reflecting natural light while providing thermal insulation to reduce energy consumption.

Final Completion & Opening

As the tallest building in the UK, The Shard transformed London’s skyline, setting new standards in modern skyscraper design.
